Car 2 U rolls out TAAP's vehicle delivery software on mobile devices

Car 2 U, the nationwide hire specialist for 4x4 and dual control vehicles, has rolled out TAAP’s vehicle delivery and collection software on mobile PDA devices. Car 2 U provides its customers – many of which are vehicle hire companies struggling to supply their clients with appropriate replacement vehicles – with an efficient service, dependent partly on ensuring vehicles are assessed thoroughly before and after they are hired out.

The TAAP software operates via a web console and PDA devices – HTC P6500s – which were chosen by Car 2 U because of the large screen size and the ability to capture signatures accurately.

The software system allows new vehicle deliveries and collection jobs to be created and allocated to drivers, so that drivers receive new jobs on their mobile handsets almost immediately.

Details about the vehicle hire and the customer can be entered into both interfaces, and data can be pulled through from a previous delivery to ensure that collection information matches up. The software also generates a unique ID for each vehicle delivery which can be referred to in other back-office systems.

Deborah Briggs at Car 2 U commented that workflow will be significantly enhanced using the ‘damage module’ which is being added to the system shortly. Damage managers will receive data relating only to hire vehicles which have been damaged, so issues are dealt with immediately and customers recharged accordingly.

Damage is recorded using built-in flat-fish diagrams reflecting the type of vehicle hired out, and through photos captured using the device’s integral camera which can then be annotated directly using the device’s stylus. Existing damage is shown in black whereas new damage is highlighted in red, so customers are only charged for costs they are responsible for.

TAAP’s web console and mobile application software is designed to be customised to workflow processes and where possible, improve upon them.

By also referencing live databases such as satellite navigation systems, postcode checker, bank checker, HPI etc., users receive up-to-date information to use within their electronic forms, therefore improving the productivity of mobile workforces.
